#AceNewsReport – Featured Update:LIBYA:April.18: Clashes began in the capital of the Northern African state early Saturday morning in districts controlled by armed groups opposing the alternative Libyan government maintaining control over Tripoli and western regions of the country.
An armed group attacked a police checkpoint in Fashloum district, Libyan news website Ajwa Belad reported. Several residential buildings were damaged in the shootout, but no casualties have been reported.
The internationally recognized Libyan government has so far made several attempts to recapture Tripoli militarily after losing the city to armed militia several months ago.
Armed clashes between pro-government groups and other tribal entities have taken place west of Tripoli on a number of occasions in recent weeks.
This time the clashes occurred within the city.
