Hongkongers should contemplate the “one country, two systems” policy and the city’s relationship with the mainland, Beijing’s official responsible for Hong Kong affairs told a delegation from the city.
The city should also reflect on the relationship between democracy and the rule of law, said Wang Guangya, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council.
“He wants us to contemplate the relationship between the country and the two systems, between democracy and rule of law, and between Hong Kong and the mainland,” Connie Wong Wai-ching, president of Kowloon Federation of Associations, told reporters in Beijing on Thursday after a closed-door meeting with Wang, who shunned reporters on his way in and out of the meeting.
